A_CLOCK_WITH_BENEFITS (2024)
At its lowest level, a computer is a clock. Who controls this clock? Whose time is valuable? Who gets to design and build these devices? Who has access to low level code and parts? Who benefits? Who gets health benefits?
A_CLOCK_WITH_BENEFITS is made from a disposable Omnipod5 insulin pump. The motor inside the pump is hacked to make it tick back and forth, by using an Arduino and a custom circuit.
The piece takes its name from Paul Ford's article for Bloomberg in which he says, "a computer is a clock with benefits."
